This determination for the need of such a continental framework is evident in Article 3 (of the Protocol in Trade in Services), where it describes the two-fold\u00a0<strong>principal objective of the protocol i.e. to first provide service-oriented support to the objectives of the (Continental Free Trade Area) Agreement and secondly, to create a single liberalised market for trade in services.<\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>The Protocol on Trade in Services means the supply of services which can be further clarified as follows as defined in Article 1 of the Protocol:<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:list -->\n<ul>\n<li>Supply of service from the\u00a0<strong>territory of one State Party<\/strong>\u00a0into the<strong>\u00a0territory of any other State Party<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Supply of service in the\u00a0<strong>territory of one State Party<\/strong>\u00a0to\u00a0<strong>the service consumer of any other State Party<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Supply of Service by a\u00a0<strong>service supplier of one State Party<\/strong>, through\u00a0<strong>commercial presence in the territory of any other State Party<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>By a\u00a0<strong>service supplier of one State Party<\/strong>, through the\u00a0<strong>presence of natural persons<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>of a State Party<\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<strong>the territory of any other State Party.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list --><!-- wp:heading {\"level\":3} -->\n<h3><strong>Specific Objectives of the Protocol on Trade in Services<\/strong><\/h3>\n<!-- \/wp:heading --><!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>In fulfilling its two-fold principal objective, the Protocol on Trade in Services has defined a series of specific objectives all to support the objectives of the AfCFTA. These specific objectives defined in Article 3 (of the Protocol on Trade in Services) are as follows:<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:list {\"ordered\":true} -->\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Enhance the competitiveness of services<\/strong>\u00a0through economies of scale, reduced business costs, enhanced continental market access, and an improved allocation of resources including the development of trade-related infrastructure;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Promote sustainable development<\/strong>\u00a0in accordance with the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa.undp.org\/content\/rba\/en\/home\/sustainable-development-goals.html\"><strong>Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)<\/strong><\/a>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Foster\u00a0<\/strong>domestic and foreign\u00a0<strong>investment<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Accelerate efforts<\/strong>\u00a0on industrial development to promote the\u00a0<strong>development of regional value chains<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Progressively liberalise trade in services across the African continent<\/strong>\u00a0based on equity, balance and mutual benefit, by eliminating barriers to trade in services;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ensure consistency and complementarity<\/strong>\u00a0between the<strong>\u00a0liberalisation<\/strong>\u00a0of trade in services and the various\u00a0<strong>Annexes\u00a0<\/strong>in specific services sectors;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pursue services trade liberalisation<\/strong>\u00a0in line with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wto.org\/english\/res_e\/publications_e\/ai17_e\/gats_art5_jur.pdf\"><strong>Article V of the GATS<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(General Agreement on Trade in Services) by expanding the depth and scope of liberalisation and increasing, improving and developing the export of services, while fully preserving the right to regulate and to introduce new regulations;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Promote and enhance common understanding and cooperation in trade in services amongst State Parties<\/strong>\u00a0to improve the capacity, efficiency and competitiveness of their services markets; and<\/li>\n<li><strong>Promote research and technological advancement<\/strong>\u00a0in the field of services to accelerate economic and social
