After three previous publications on overview of flagship projects, two things become apparent, the one is that Africa will need lots and lots of skills so we need to skill up and skill up with Agenda 2063 intent. The second thing is that the year 2063 is extremely far away and apart from the fact that many of us would be either old or ancestors by the time this year comes around, many of our children may be even older than we are currently by the time it\u2019s 2063. It is for these reasons that these flagship projects fit the agenda 2063 puzzle quite nicely as they foster a culture of both education and knowledge sharing that will outlive the founders of Agenda 2063 and ensure their visions do not die with them.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Three of Agenda 2063 flagship projects are discussed below i.e. the establishment of an Annual African economic forum, Pan-African E-Network and an African Virtual and E-University.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

African Economic Platform<\/strong><\/h3>\n

<\/p>\n

The flagship project that is the African Economic platform (AEP) amounts to the creation of an annual consultative platform for policy dialogue involving a wide range of stakeholders, and any other integrative initiatives that are in line with the spirit of Agenda 2063 (Ref-26).\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The objectives of these economic platform sessions revolve around constructive multi stakeholder dialogues around common themes for Africans. These dialogues will serve the purposes of influencing continental policies as it allows for direct engagements with African leaders on matters of mutual interest. The platform will also foster the establishment of multi-country and multi-sector priorities and plans for common action across member states (Ref-27).<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The AEP is designed to bring together once a year, African political leadership, the private sector, academia and civil society for the purposes of discussing developments and constraints as well as measures to be taken to realise aspirations and goals of Agenda 2063 (Ref-26).<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/h3>\n

The Pan-African E-Network (PAeN)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

<\/p>\n

The PAeN project is a joint undertaking by the Government of India and AU commission, whose main objective is to help with capacity building by imparting quality education, medical tele-expertise and consultations from Indian academic and medical institutions, to AU member states (Ref-7).<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The project which started back in 2007 as a pilot project in Ethiopia connects centers in India with member states of the AU through the use of electronic information and technology and provides tele-medicine and tele-education to its African counterparts (Ref-8).<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The network infrastructure for PAeN has subsequently been relocated from India to Dakar<\/strong> and placed under the custody of the Government of Senegal<\/strong> after the Indian government handed the infrastructure over to the AU commission in 2017 (Ref-9).<\/p>\n

Pan African Virtual and E-University (PAVEU)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

<\/p>\n

The Pan-African Virtual and E-University is a flagship educational project of the African union that aims to address the demand for accelerating the development of human capital, science and technology and innovation by increasing access to tertiary and continuous education on the continent (Ref-9).<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The PAVEU project is being operationalised as the Open Distance and E-learning (ODEL) arm of the\u00a0Pan African University<\/strong><\/a>, an existing AU commission initiative (currently headquartered in Yaounde Cameroon)<\/strong> which pre-dates Agenda 2063 that aims to revitalise higher education and research in Africa.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

One criticism of formal education is the slow pace of change in educational curriculums to align with the reality outside the classroom and the PAVEU is looking to address this by promoting development and delivery of responsive, demand-driven education programs. The PAVEU is also looking to increase access to quality tertiary and continuing education in Africa through ODEL resources and technology as well as seeking to enhance the research capacity of its counterpart\u2019s i.e. other African tertiary education institutions.\u00a0 (Ref-13).<\/p>\n
