Scope of the African Continental Free Trade Area – [Part B (3 of 4)] – The AfCFTA Protocol on Trade in Services and associated Annexes
The African Continental Free Trade Area Protocol on Trade in Services and associated Annexes.
Annexes and Appendices are types of a document attached to a contract or agreement. Article 1 of the (Continental Free Trade Area) Agreement, cites both annexes and appendices as an instrument attached to a Protocol and Article 8 also confirms that it is an integral part of the Agreement.
The framework below provides a list of Annexes for the Protocol on Trade in Services as defined in Article 28 of the Protocol.

Article 28 (paragraph 1) goes on to say that “Member States may develop the above annexes for the implementation of the protocol. In other words, at the time of writing this, the Protocol on Trade in Services Annexes was just listed. The details of the Annexes may therefore be developed, adopted (by the Assembly) and published in future. If this happens we will do our bit by providing further detail on the above.
Article 28 (paragraph 3) further states that additional annexes may be defined in the future meaning that the 5 Annexes listed above may change if the custodians of the Continental Free Trade Area Agreement are of the view that new Annexes are required for the implementation of the Protocol.
